Case Studies
Range Rover Hybrid
With changing market conditions and the need for a more environmental way of travelling it is becoming normal now to see motor manufacturers offering alternatives to the traditional petrol and diesel engine derivatives.
Land Rover have taken the bold step to introduce a Hybrid version of the new Range Rover with battery assisted technology.
As a key strategic supply to Land Rover, Gestamp were selected to supply a complicated assembly for the battery housing device known as the HEV assembly.
Broadways is a key supplier to Gestamp and were chosen to produce all the conventional pressings to go into the assembly based on delivery performance, quality performance and ultimately offering the best and most cost effective solution to the programme.
The project totalled 27 individual part numbers ranging from small pressings circa 100 Ton capacity to large complicated pressings up to 800Ton capacity.
Due to the timescales and budget all the tooling and checking fixtures were placed and project managed by Broadways through its network of toolmakers in China.
During the planned trial builds various quantities of samples were supplied to Gestamp from China to aid the prototype and then initial production builds.
All timescales and deadline builds have been supplied and met ‘on-time’.
This is new technology for Land Rover and has therefore had a very high profile not only at Land Rover but also within Gestamp, there are great opportunities for this technology to pass onto other models within the Land Rover and Jaguar models and Gestamp and Broadways are well placed to partner the new development due to the experience and performance in this HEV project.
It will be exciting to see how the market will react to this new technology and more environmental way of travelling in a luxury market leading 4X4 vehicle
